Introduction
Everlog ("the App", "we", "us") is a local-first life logging application for iOS. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App accesses, what we collect, how we use it, and how we protect your privacy.
We designed Everlog from the ground up around the principle that your personal journal data is yours — it should not be hosted on someone else's server, sold to advertisers, or used to train AI models without your knowledge. This policy reflects that commitment in concrete, technical terms.
By downloading or using Everlog, you agree to this Privacy Policy.
02
Local-First Architecture
Everlog uses a local-first architecture. All journal entries, categories, patterns, streaks, goals, and app settings are stored exclusively in a SQLite database on your device. This is not a cloud service with an offline mode — your device is the primary and authoritative store of your data.
The App does not require an internet connection to function. Core logging, browsing history, viewing patterns, and managing goals all work entirely offline. The network is used only for the specific, bounded purposes described below.
03
Information We Collect (and Do Not Collect)
What we do NOT collect
-
No personal identifiers — no name, email address, phone number, or user account of any kind.
-
No journal content stored server-side — your logs, notes, and entries exist only on your device.
-
No behavioral analytics — we do not track which screens you visit, how long you use the app, or what features you tap.
-
No location data — GPS coordinates recorded in a log entry are stored only on your device and never transmitted.
-
No advertising identifiers — we do not read or transmit IDFA, IDFV, or any device advertising identifier.
What we do collect (minimally)
-
Anonymous device identifier — a randomly generated UUID created on first launch. This identifier is not tied to your Apple ID, device hardware, or any personal information. It is used solely to enforce per-device rate limits on the AI parsing service and has no other purpose. It is not combined with any other data.
04
AI Parsing — How It Works
The AI-powered parsing feature allows you to speak or type naturally, and the App extracts structured data (categories, people mentioned, places, sentiment, timestamps) from your text. This feature requires a brief network request because the AI model runs server-side.
AI parsing data flow
-
Text is sent to our Cloudflare Worker, which validates your anonymous device identifier against your daily quota and forwards the request to the Anthropic API.
-
Neither our Worker nor our infrastructure logs or persists the content of your text. The parse request is stateless — text in, structured JSON out.
-
Anthropic's data handling: Text sent to Anthropic's API is subject to Anthropic's own Privacy Policy and API usage terms. By default, Anthropic does not use API inputs to train models. We encourage you to review Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
-
AI parsing is entirely optional. Free users receive 3 AI parses per day. You can use Everlog indefinitely through manual entry with no network connectivity at all.
05
iCloud Backup (Premium Feature)
Premium subscribers can enable iCloud backup, which stores an encrypted copy of your local SQLite database in your personal iCloud account. This feature is:
-
Entirely optional and user-initiated — it is off by default.
-
Stored in your own iCloud account, not in any infrastructure we control. We cannot access, read, or delete your iCloud data.
-
Governed by Apple's iCloud Terms and Privacy Policy. Your backup data is subject to Apple's privacy practices, not ours. Review Apple's Privacy Policy for details.
06
In-App Purchases & Subscription
Premium subscriptions are processed exclusively through Apple's App Store using StoreKit. We never see, handle, or store your payment information, card details, or Apple ID. Purchase records and subscription status are managed entirely by Apple.
We receive only a subscription status signal (active / expired) from Apple's StoreKit APIs to determine which features to unlock. No financial data passes through our infrastructure.
07
Third-Party SDKs & Analytics
Everlog does not include any third-party analytics SDKs (such as Firebase, Mixpanel, Amplitude, Segment, or similar), advertising SDKs, social media SDKs, or crash reporting services that transmit personal data.
The only third-party services that interact with the App are:
-
Anthropic API — for AI text parsing only (see Section 4).
-
Apple iCloud — for optional backup (see Section 5).
-
Apple StoreKit — for in-app purchase and subscription validation (see Section 6).
08
Data Retention
Because we do not store your personal data on our servers, there is no retention period to define. Your journal data persists on your device until you delete it or uninstall the App.
The anonymous device UUID used for rate limiting is retained in our Cloudflare Worker's KV store only as a counter (number of daily API calls). No other data is associated with it. This counter resets daily and is not linked to any personal information.
To delete all your data: Uninstall Everlog from your device. If you have iCloud backup enabled, delete the iCloud backup through iOS Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Storage. There is no account to close because there is no account.
09
Children's Privacy
Everlog is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the App requires no account and collects no personal data by design, there is limited risk — however, if you are a parent or guardian and have concerns, please contact us at the address in Section 11.
10
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, for material changes, post a notice within the App. Continued use of Everlog after a policy update constitutes your acceptance of the revised terms.
We are committed to never materially weakening your privacy protections without giving you adequate notice and, where possible, the choice to opt out of any new data collection.
